Mondays, Wednesdays 7:15 –8:45 pm
Tuition: $85.00 (Member $70.00)

The practice of yoga asanas (yoga postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and relaxation is considered to be ideal preparation for the practice of steadying the mind in meditation.

This course gives a practical introduction to all of these practices. Each 90-minute class includes approximately 60 minutes of yoga, pranayama, and relaxation practice and 30 minutes of work on the theory and practice of meditation.

With over 40 years experience in teaching yoga to beginners, the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center has developed a highly successful two-part introductory program that addresses all the major needs of newcomers to Yoga.

The program is divided into a series of progressive classes, each of which provides a balanced yoga session that leaves students feeling relaxed and full of energy.

Designed for complete beginners, the program is also appropriate for those with some experience of yoga who are new to this style of practice.

The courses are held in small groups to ensure individual attention; please reserve early to secure a place. The course includes the following:

  • Introduction to Yoga philosophy
  • Basic breathing exercises
  • Guided relaxation techniques
  • Stretching exercises
  • Sun salutation
  • Introduction to the basic sequence of 12 asanas

Courses meet at 1207 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue. Space is limited. Please reserve early.
